Progress against lung cancer is driven by grassroots action, and action starts at the National Lung Cancer Partnership’s Lung Cancer Advocacy Summit!

Featuring three days of training, interactive sessions and networking opportunities, this transformative event will empower people like you to work with the National Lung Cancer Partnership and become effective lung cancer advocates. The Summit is open to anyone affected by lung cancer, including survivors, patients, family and friends!

With training on a wide variety of ways to get involved, participants will be able to harness their personal strengths, interests and passions to craft advocacy goals that are right for them. The Summit will include sessions and workshops on:

• Understanding the science of lung cancer
• Overcoming lung cancer stigma
• Organizing fundraising and awareness events
• Understanding lung cancer research, including a tour of the laboratories at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
• Developing strategies to plan and achieve your advocacy goals with the National Lung Cancer Partnership

In order to ensure that participants have opportunities for constructive interaction and networking, attendance will be limited to 75 people. Complete our online application to apply for this year’s Advocacy Summit. Applications will be evaluated based on essay submissions and applicants’ commitment to advocacy in their communities. Application is open to U.S. residents only. No previous experience with lung cancer advocacy is required, just a desire to take action in your community.

The deadline for applications is June 18, 2012. Applicants will be notified of decisions by the week of July 16. Apply online.

Participants will be provided with most meals and three paid nights of shared hotel accommodation in Nashville. Individuals may opt for their own hotel room for an additional fee. A number of scholarships are available (up to $500) for participants who require assistance with transportation expenses.
