Lung Cancer Awareness Month
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. It's a time when thousands of people will come together to make a difference in the places where the effects of lung cancer are felt the most: their local communities. We celebrate successes, pay tribute to those touched by lung cancer and work for a more hopeful future for everyone affected by this disease.
The success of Lung Cancer Awareness Month is driven by the energy and dedication of grassroots advocates. Every November, these volunteers organize awareness events, teach their communities about lung cancer and raise funds for vital research.
Find out how you can get involved during Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and all year long.
We thank every advocate who has helped build this movement to defeat lung cancer. Keep reading for details on how advocates are making a difference in their local communities during Awareness Month.

Advocates' efforts are vital to ensuring that everyone diagnosed with lung cancer has access to the information they need to make informed decisions about their treatment and care. Advocates visit hospitals, doctors' offices, community centers and libraries to distribute free Partnership resources. See who's raising awareness in their communities.
Special Fundraising Events
The lung cancer community is full of people who know how to turn creative ideas into exciting fundraisers for the Partnership's research, education and awareness programs. For a full list and descriptions of this year's fundraisers, visit the Advocates in Action page.
State Chapter Events
Our State Chapters carry the Partnership's message by hosting awareness, fundraising and educational events. They are centers of action for advocates in their states, and they've been busy this Awareness Month! Check out a list of events from our State Chapters in:
Louisiana
North Carolina
Pennsylvania
Awareness Month Proclamations
Many lung cancer advocates take their efforts to state and local governments by getting proclamations declaring November Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
Getting a proclamation is usually a straightforward process, and advocates have reported many successes this November! See a list of advocates' Lung Cancer Awareness Month proclamations.
Free to Breathe® Events
Free to Breathe events raise vital funding for research, education and awareness; the volunteer organizers who make these events possible are pillars of dedication, determination and hope within the lung cancer community. They're on track to host 37 events this year, 12 of which occur during Awareness Month!
Hundreds of people also participated in Free to Breathe National Walk Week from November 5-11. Families and friends from across the country walked together, some in body and others in spirit, to fundraise and elevate awareness in their communities.
Visit the Free to Breathe website for a full list of events, and visit the Advocates in Action page to see who organized a Free to Breathe event in 2011.

11 Days of Hope
Starting on November 1, we posted one survivor story every day on Facebook and Twitter for 11 days.
The lung cancer community responded by sharing these stories online with their family and friends, which raised awareness among the public and sparked online discussions about the personal impact of lung cancer.
To read all the stories we shared, visit the 11 Days of Hope page.
