Great 108 Yogathon December 21, 2009

The Great 108 Yogathon offered participants a way to burn off holiday calories and benefit a good cause. Our family friendly and festive event included hors d’oeuvres, waters, chair massage, community spirit and lung cancer education for participants and volunteers.
About the Winter Solstice: The number 108 has been considered auspicious for thousands of years. Yogis often celebrate the change of seasons by doing 108 sun salutations on the solstices and equinoxes.

Members of the North Carolina chapter attended the second annual Lung Cancer Advocacy Summit in Dallas, TX in April to share knowledge and learn more about advocating for lung cancer awareness and funding. North Carolina participants called it an incredible and inspiring experience. Thank you to the National Lung Cancer Partnership for making it possible!
April 2009 - Durham, NC - An Evening of Hope at Duke University Nasher Museum of Art More than 100 people attended the chapter's second annual spring gala for lung cancer, an "Evening of Hope" at the Duke Nasher Musuem of Art. The elegant evening brought together advocates, health professionals and survivors to raise awareness and funding of lung cancer.

Anil Potti, M.D., Assistant Professor in the Duke Department of Medicine and Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy, was among the guest speakers
at the lung cancer awareness event. Potti studies genomes with the goal of personalizing treatments to improve the effectiveness of lung cancer therapies.
