PSA Campaign Messages:
The National Lung Cancer Partnership has launched a national, multi-media public service announcement (PSA) campaign to inform women about their risk for lung cancer and urge them to find out more about this deadly disease.
• In a survey conducted by the Partnership, only 12 percent of women believed they knew the symptoms of lung cancer and fewer than 10 percent said they had talked to their doctors about their risk for lung cancer.
• The Partnership PSA campaign takes aim at America’s obsession with women’s breasts to make women aware that lung cancer is actually the leading cancer killer because most women perceive breast cancer as their biggest threat.
• More than 100,000 women contract lung cancer each year and the disease kills 30,000 more women than breast cancer annually in the United States.
• Lung cancer kills more women than breast, ovarian and uterine cancer combined.
• The Partnership’s goal is to raise awareness of lung cancer and increase research funding to support treatments that can help people with lung cancer live longer and healthier lives.
• More information about the PSA campaign and lung cancer is available at the Partnership’s website: www.NationalLungCancerPartnership.org.
